Mikumi National Park
The park around East circuit of Tanzania North of Selous game reserve. Mikumi national park has Elephants and wild dogs which are listed as threatened. It lies between the village of Doma and Mikumi on the Dar-es-salaam. Was established in 1964 with an area of about 3,230km². It is 295 km long from Dar-es-salaam and main attractions are Elephants and wild dogs, Migratory birds. Location, Morogoro region.
Ruaha National park
The second largest national park in Tanzania. Ruaha is the HEHE word that means RUVAHA with meaning of “The Great River”. It is the home of wild dogs, crocodiles and hippopotamus. Established in 1964 with an area of about 20,300 km². It is located 120 km long from Iringa, 322 km from Mikumi, 369 km from Dodoma, 502 km from Mbeya, 615 km from Dar-es-Salaam and 807 km from Arusha. Location; Morogoro region and Iringa region.
Udzungwa Mountains National park
This park is boarded by the Great Ruaha River to the North and by the road between Mikumi and Ifakara to the East. It is very attractive due to the mountain forest, water falls, and primate notably the Iring red colobus monkey, Sanje crested mangabey, Black and white colobus monkey, birds, sacred place for washiping Mawanaluvele cave. It was established in 1992 with an area of about 1990 km². It is about 350 km from Dar-es-salaam and 65km from South West of Mikumi. Location; Morogoro region.
Gombe National park
The park with mountains stripe bordering the lakeshores of lake Tanganyika. It is 16 km long North of Kigoma and recheable by boat from Kigoma. It was established in 1943 and gazette in 1968 with an area of 52 km². Unique attraction is chimpanzee trekking. Located in Kigoma region.
Mahale National park
This park is located along Lake Tanganyika about 128 km long South of Kigoma town. The main attractions are Water falls, bird watching and Chimpanzee trekking. It was established in 1985 with an area of about 1,613 km². Located in Uvinza district South of Kigoma region.
Saadani National park
This is the national park which found along the Indian Ocean coast some 45 km North of Bagamoyo and directly West of Zanzibar. It is only national park where the Bush meets the Beach. This park is unique due to combination of terrestrial wildlife and marine Flora and Fauna. It was established in 2005 with vast land of about 1,178 km², whereas 1148 km² is dry land and 30 km² covered by marine water. Major attractions: Beach and sea Turtles nesting ground, madete Warm River, variety of animals and birds, Hippos, crocodiles and big five except Rhinos. It is 50 km long from Zanzibar, 45 km from Bagamoyo and 100 km from Dar-es-salaam. Location, Bagamoyo.
Saanane National park
This is the national park which is an Island and is the smallest National park in Tanzania. It is found in Lake Victoria, as the home of Crocodiles, monitor lizards, wild cat, tortoise, python and rock hyraxes. It was established in 2013 and gazette in 2013 with an area of about 2.18 km². It is 3 km long from Mwanza city. Location, Mwanza region.
Mkomazi National park
Mkomazi national park was formally a game reserve and the home for Black rhino which is result of Mkomazi Rhino project involving the re-controduction of a number of Black Rhino from South Africa. The capture breeding program for the African wild dog is another project for the preservation of endangered species that is based in Mkomazi. It is 120km long from Mosh, 155 km from KIA and 200 km from Arusha. Established in 2007 with an area of about 3,245 km². Location, Same district in Kilimanjaro region and Lushoto district in Tanga region.
Rubondo National park
This national park is located in Lake Victoria same as saanane national park. It is the home for migratory species of birds, large number of butterflies, and high density of fish. It was established in 1977 with an area of about 457 km² whereas 237 km² is terrestrial and 20 km² is water. It is 265 km long by bus from Mwanza. Location, Mwanza region.
Kitulo National park
Kitulo plateau national park is the first park in tropical Africa to be recognized largely for its floristic significance or attraction. It is locally known as the Gods garden or Serengeti of flowers. It is 78km long from Chimala along the Dar-es-salaam road. It was established in 2005 with an area of 412.9 km². It is well known for the colorful flowers/botanic. Location, Njombe region.
Kilimanjaro National park
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world and therefore regarded as the roof of Africa. It is 5,895m altitude above the sea level. The major attractions are mountain, forest, land scape, caves and lava tubes around the mountain. It was established in 1973 with an area of 1668 km². It is 48 km from Moshi, 90 km from KIA and 128 km from Arusha city. Location; Kilimanjaro region.
Katavi National park
The park is located about 40km South East of town of Mpanda. It is famous known for the great concentration of Hippos and crocodiles. It was established in 1974 with an area of 4,471km² It is 40km long from Mpanda district. Location. Mpanda in Katavi region.
